THE YES! PROGRAMME - WHERE TO FIND HELP AT SHOWS

Candidates can find help from their Administrators if they are present, from their Regional Mentors and or one of the listed YES! Mentors. All YES! Officials should be wearing their badge for identification. Parents must remember though that THEY are responsible for their child’s conduct at shows and should be present in the show vicinity when their children are stewarding or working with a judge, table worker or mentor in case they are required.

THE ROLE OF REGIONAL MENTORS/ADVISORS

These are listed on the website with a photograph for easy recognition. Their role is extremely important as we want every candidate to feel they are supported and can seek advice wherever they live or show in the UK. The Regional Mentors  have volunteered from the list of YES! Mentors  and their role would include:

  1. Working  with parents/guardians at shows to maintain a family interest in cat showing and to give positive support to the candidate.
  2. Seeking out YES! Candidates at shows, introducing themselves and enquiring whether the candidate wished to work or steward at the show or whether they have work in their folder they wish to be checked and marked off etc.
  3. Discussing a candidate’s progress with them and helping with any problems or misunderstandings.
  4. Introducing  candidates to other Mentors of specific interest that are appropriate to the Level the candidate is working through.
  5. Working with Show Managers in the region. Persuading them to include YES! Classes in schedules and liaising regarding requirements , the need for ordering Presentation Forms, rosettes etc.
  6. Working as a Mentor to YES! Candidates
  7. Being a role model to show and lead by example.

THE ROLE OF A MENTOR/ADVISOR IN THE YES! PROGRAMME

The Mentors/Advisors to the YES! Programme will play a crucial role in the success of the scheme. It is imperative that Parents/Guardians are involved at all stages and are aware of any contact their child has with a mentor. The scheme will be transparent at all stages. It was agreed in Council that Mentors would work with candidates at cat shows and the only people who would advise/support/help candidates on a one to one basis via email or telephone would be the YES! Administrators. For this reason, the Administrators will have enhanced CRB screening.

It is suggested the mentors/advisers would fulfil one or more of the following requirements:

  1. Maintain membership of a GCCF affiliated club
  2. Be familiar with the Aims, Objectives and Content of the YES! Programme.
  3. Be willing to act as a guide/coach to candidates
  4. Be a GCCF Judge; GCCF Steward; Show Manager; Assistant Show Manager or Section Manager; GCCF Delegate or a member of the committee of a GCCF affiliated club
  5. Be a teacher or person with current experience of working with Young People; be involved in the Cat Fancy and in sympathy with the Aims, Objectives and Content of the YES! Programme.

The Role of mentors/advisers would include:

  1. Supporting candidates on the YES! Programme through the levels of achievement by talking to them at shows, helping with queries and answering questions regarding husbandry and exhibiting.
  2. Being prepared to give time and commitment to the YES! Programme.
  3. Monitoring candidate's work and evidence of achievement through the scheme when required.
  4. Being a role model, to show and lead by example
