THE YES! PROGRAMME - INFORMATION FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS

This website has been designed to provide abundant information for parents and guardians about the YES! Programme as well as an important source of information and material for the candidates.

OUR AIMS FOR THE YES! PROGRAMME

If you refer to our Aims and Objectives on the YES! Programme page you will see that this scheme is aimed to benefit your child, educate him/her about their cat, the Cat Fancy and encourage participation in this fascinating hobby.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

The Health and Safety page is there to assure you of our care and attention to detail in this very important area. It is important you make sure your child is aware of the contents and that you explain to them why these rules are there for their benefit and must be followed.

The candidate does not have to own their own cat, but it is important they know the daily routine and participate as much as possible in caring for, owning and exhibiting the cat(s) they present to the Judges.

PRESENTATIONS

The page on "Presentation at Shows" gives you clear guidance on procedure and it is important you discuss this with your child. Do remember however one of the most important points when your child presents his/her cat to the judge:

IT IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE THAT THE CAT HANDLED BY THE CANDIDATE IS APPROPRIATE FOR THE AGE AND ABILITY OF THE YOUNG EXHIBITOR MAKING THE PRESENTATION.

PARENTAL CONSENT

It is very important that you read the Application Form carefully and take notice of the following:

PARENTAL PERMISSION: I/We give permission for our child to participate in the GCCF’s YES! Programme. We  understand they must maintain junior membership of a GCCF affiliated club whilst working through the scheme and that they need to show a GCCF registered pedigree cat or a Household Pet while participating (the cat need not be in their name at Novice Level but must be part of the same household). I understand I am responsible for my child’s conduct at shows and have signed the Parental/Medical Consent Form.

The other form that must be read carefully and submitted with the Application Form is the Parental/Medical Consent Form. Please make sure you have read and understood the following clauses:

Part 1 - Parental Consent
1.1       I hereby give my permission for the person named below (“the Candidate”) to participate in the Scheme, and confirm that I know of no reason (medical or otherwise) why the Candidate would not be suitable for such.
1.2       I understand and accept that, whilst participating in the Scheme, the Candidate will be exposed to and will handle cats, and will also be in show halls in the presence of many people and cats.
1.3       Whilst the Scheme Organisers will use their best endeavours to ensure the safety and well being of the Candidate whilst participating in the Scheme, I accept and agree that cats, like all animals, can be unpredictable in nature, and therefore there is an element of risk to the Candidate, in participating in the Scheme.
In particular:-
Cats may bite and/or scratch;
Bites and scratches may result in serious illnesses or injuries; and
Exposure to cats may result in allergies or other injuries.
1.4       I understand that the Scheme Organisers are unable to obtain insurance to cover the possibility of the Candidate suffering an accident, injury or illness whilst participating in the Scheme, if the Candidate is under 16 years old.  I therefore further understand that it is my responsibility to take out suitable insurance cover (or otherwise ensure that suitable insurance cover is already in place), in order to protect the Candidate in the event of any such accident, injury or illness.

RELEVANT MEDICAL CONSENT AND HISTORY
It is also very important for you to complete the details in Part 2 of the form:
Part 2 - Medical Consent
2.1       I hereby consent to medical assistance being obtained for the Candidate in the event of any accident, injury or illness occurring at any time whilst the Candidate is participating in the Scheme, or is otherwise under the care and control of the Scheme Organisers.
I agree that in the event that such medical assistance is obtained, I will immediately reimburse the Scheme Organisers for all costs and expenses incurred in connection with such.
I confirm that I have set out below all relevant information with regard to the Candidate’s medical history, any ongoing medical conditions and allergies, and any current medication:-

The relevant medical history of your child is very important in case of any injury etc. and also all medication required by the Candidate whilst participating in the Scheme, including inhalers etc for asthma/allergies, MUST accompany the Candidate, failing which the Scheme Organisers reserve the right to exclude the Candidate from participation in the Scheme on that day.

DISCLAIMER
The final part of the Parental/Medical Consent Form that needs to be read and understood is:

Part 3 - Disclaimer
I understand that no liability is accepted by the Scheme Organisers for any damage to property or financial losses, howsoever caused, arising out of the Candidate’s participation in the Scheme, nor for any accident, injury or illness suffered by the Candidate, save where the said accident, injury or illness was caused by the negligence of the Scheme Organisers.
I confirm I have read and understood the above terms and conditions, and agree to the Candidate participating in the Scheme on this basis.

THE YES! PROGRAMME

The YES! Programme has been developed to attract, inspire and engage young people through the enjoyment of owning and exhibiting cats. As one young candidate stated, "I would like to grab this opportunity with both hands to increase my knowledge further and to in general have FUN!"*

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PARENTS
We have to advise parents that any refreshments for candidates second stewarding or table working at shows is at the discretion of the show manager. Parents should therefore be prepared to provide these for their child.

It is for parents/guardians to consider and believe that the benefits to their child resulting from his or her participation in the YES! Programme far outweigh any risk of illness or injury that could perhaps be involved.
